Our distribution strategy is multi-faceted and includes:
Crowdfunding Pre-Orders (June 21 – July 30, 2014)
Over 400 Kickstarter backers purchased DVDs of the film during our fundraising campaign.
Crowdfunding Fulfillment (Winter 2015)
A sneak-preview of the film was hosted online at Vimeo where it was watched over 600 times by the Kickstarter backers who supported the project with pledges of at least $50. Kickstarter pre-orders of the DVD were fulfilled in February 2015.
Mexico Premiere (Winter 2015)
A Spanish subtitled version of the film premiered at the 2015 Ultra Marathon Caballo Blanco in Urique, Chihuahua, Mexico on Feb. 27, 2015. Hundreds of Tarahumara runners were present, along with additional communities of Mexican and international runners from around the world.
USA Premiere (Spring 2015)
Run Free was Presented by Saucony at the 2015 Boston Marathon. Over 300 people attended the first major public screening of the film.
Southwest USA Screening Tour (Spring 2015)
A self-organized 10-city in-person screening tour took place in April and May in New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado. Many of the shows were sold out and average attendance at these shows ranged from 200 – 350 people. For more information please visit our Screenings Page.
International Festivals (April 2015 – Ongoing)
Run Free debuted at the 2015 Arizona International Film Festival. The film won the award for Best Documentary Feature. It is also a selection at the Madrid International Film Festival and the New Hope Film Festival. Film festival entry will continue throughout 2015. Acceptance into film festivals will be published on our website and Facebook page.
Community Screenings (Summer 2015 – ongoing)
Running stores, clubs and other organizations will soon be able to support the film in their communities through Tugg, a website that makes it possible for anybody to host a movie screening at their own local theater. This will be a fantastic way of bringing our running communities together.
Digital Launch (Fall 2015)
Run Free will be released online, worldwide on iTunes, Vimeo OnDemand, Amazon Instant Video and other channels.
Digital Expansion
The film’s digital presence will grow to include other channels like Netflix, Hulu, etc.
